Legacy Gee's Bend Digital Directions
Legacy Gee's Bend Digital Directions
Our legacy kits are over 20 years old. The Gee's Bend was designed by the original owner of Glass Garden Beads (Catherine Collison). The inspiration came from the Quilts of the Gee's Bend area in Alabama. The Bracelet is made much like the quilts. Beaded Squares and Rectangles. Stitched with a Rounded Square Stitch.
The directions are a mix of the original written directions and a color chart showing what beads go where. This was a huge help with this bracelet. Plus a color chart and color picture of a stitched sample is included in the 11 and 12 page directions. Some color combos have more colors so the direction pages do vary.
An accent 4mm cube or square beads are added. Not all squares and rectangles have this accent. The bead chart identifies the number of beads needed for each color. It also identifies when to use the accent beads. We use 11o seed beads. The connection is a beaded square and a loop. Make the loop smaller so there is a resistance between the closure. This protects against coming detached.
The Squares and Rectangles are made up separately. You connect them as you go or in sections. There is a pattern grid that will help you with the layout.
It is a timely kit and the Rounded Square Stitch is not what I would classify a beginner level. With help from a more experienced beader then yes give it a try.
The patterning of colors is what makes this design the draw to make this bracelet.
Enjoy.
